Mine already had the fittings in them when I bought my truck 4 years ago.
I remember back in 1967 my Dad having my Mom's '65 Mustang OLF'd for the second time and the mechanic asking IF he could remove the little plugs and install fittings to grease everything.......didn't know that vehicles such as our SDs still came with the little plugs.
Actually, the ball joints and tie rod ends use 1/4"-28 Taper Thread SAE-LT Grease Fittings .
People get mistaken about thread sizes and think the 1/8" NPT fits a 1/8" hole. The name leads to some confusion.
Hey thanks I was looking to change them out... I do have a related question and that is where can I get new grease boots at a good price that fit? Thanks guys
im not to sure. i would think it would be easier to just replace the entire ball joint if you are doing just the boots. im not to sure tho. im sure one of the othergguys will chime in
