I'm thining about trying to hard wire my iPhone 4 behind the dash into the Sync USB connection and then affixing my phone into a cradle mounted somewhere off to the left of the stereo where it's accessible to the driver.
This way when I get into my 2011 F250 I can just put my phone into the cradle and use voice through Sync to jump from song to song or artist to artist.
You can't connect your iPhone 4 via bluetooth to achieve the same thing? I can stream music off my (WinMo) phone via BT to the nav unit.
Regardless, if this is the setup you're looking to achieve, there's a second USB port you can tap into on the Sync module and still have your regular USB port on the dash. It'd give you the option of USB1 and USB2. It works well, I have a flash drive in my glove box that's connected to USB2, then if someone needs a charge or whatever, they can just plug into the dash.
Thanks for the reply. If I'm not mistaken, per the Sync instructions, it says that when you're hard wired into Sync it gives you the ability to direct it to access specific artists and tracks. I've tried this with BT, but it says it is limited on the commands you can use; i.e. PLAY, NEXT SELECTION, etc.
Ahh, gotcha. I haven't tried the commands on my phone. I normally don't stream anything, although Pandora would be nice at times. With so many channels on Sirius, the cd's burned on the hard drive, and 9GB of music on my flash drive, I have quite a bit of options (not to mention the Lockpick frees up the DVD in motion functionality).
If I was doing a project like that, I'd tap into the 2nd usb port for the iPhone wire, then run it up out of the dash somewhere to your mount. You'll need a cable to go from the Sync module to a USB female for the phone wire to plug into, in which case you can use the factory cable. I think I paid like $20 or something for it. There's a number of threads with pics/wires on the 2nd usb port if you go that route.
2000silverbullet - you wrote about a 2nd USB port...where is that located?
Its on the sync module itself to the right of the glove box (once lowered). If you follow the factory USB cable to the sync module, the 2nd port is right there next to where the factory cable plugs in. If you head down to the 6.7 forum and search "2nd usb", you'll get a bunch of results, some have great pics of where its at and what to order. If you have trouble finding it, post back up and I'll get you a link.
