5 Speed launch tips?

Hey guys, this is my 1st standard truck ive owned and im having a little trouble taking off. I start off in 2nd since 1st is useless for daily driving except parking lots, but im slow as a snail starting out. Any tips for launching? I feel foolish when at a light next to a cummins that obviously has it out for me and i cant get up and go. Any tips would be appreciated guys!

I have a 4.11 rear end and I am able to start in second no problem. If you have the 3.55 rear end you may have to rev it and slip the clutch a little. Otherwise get really fast at shifting from 1-2 when starting out. Just give it some time and practice and you will be a pro at it in no time. Every truck's clutch and gearing feels different, even if they have the "same" specs.

Sure, if you wanna beat the dodge, rev to about 2k, dump the clutch and hold on! Lol

yeah, uh dont do that.

anyways.
if your clutch has some adjustment issues, it wont work the best for slipping.

just take time practicing taking off without the go pedal.
eventually you'l get the feel for it and it will be easy.

our trucks generally suck taking off when they are cold though.
I have a tendency to stall mine in the morning at one stop on the way to work forgetting that its cold.

What do you mean by "slipping" the clutch?

you let it out till the clutch isn't fully engaged, but at the friction point, that will allow you to lurch forward.
It might be a bit jerky, but the slipping point is the important part of driving a stickshift.
its not pedal in or pedal out.

You only use it to take off and what not though, not when you shift while moving.
Slipping the clutch while driving just will wear the damn thing out faster.

if you wanna learn how to be pro at a stick.

Go get a POS car with a stickshift in it to practice.

You'll be a badmofo when your rockin the handshaker after that.

I have 4.10 gears and I always use first gear. Yes it is only for a second then shift then two seconds and shift into third and away we go.

My truck does not like starting in second gear at all. I even do better times at the strip when I use first. Go figure.

When starting at a red light I start in first and I am shifting into third by the time I cross the other side of the intersection.

Starting in second will wear the clutch prematurely.

*shrugs*
I don't have any issues over feathering the clutch in second.
Then again, you have a completely different clutch than anyone else would have, so it would be a bit different.
