Well, I admit, I am not an expert when it comes to terminology.
I know that the thing we replaced was the nylon switch that fits in the steering column of the truck, cost around $70 or $75. Aparently, the contact was not good when the metal would slide to contact the right or left turn signal. And the unit could not be repaired either. I also know that when we did they repair, the device that disables the vehicle to start (if its in gear or not) broke from its mount in the steering column and now my friend has to grab this dangling piece of equipment, and slide it around to start it. And about the flasher, I am sorry for not having used the correct term for this. I am new at fixing these trucks and not very familiar with that terminology.
I just got a 76 Super Cap Camper Special 250 for $700 bucks, in pretty good shape, 86000 miles. Had a litttle problem like this with the turn signals. I found the problem to be in the signal switch. Switch was fine- one wire was not making contact were it was contect via a rivet to the switch. I cleaned it up and put some solder over top[- quick fix works great just took a while to figure out were it was broken.
One other thing that you forgot to mention is to clean all of the gounds up real well also those light sockets go bad easily I had this my problem on my 78 F-150 4X4 and the right front turnsignal wouldnt work with the lights on but the hazard did after I did all of the hard stuff like checking the switch with i decided to clean the ground and put a new socket on it and the light worked fine it was backfeeding in the ground and the socket was shorting out. Just my $0.02
