hey all, found a 03 f250 7.3 diesel with 179k miles on it. i'm going to look at it this week and i'm just looking for some basic stuff i might be able to look for with it's mileage. i drive a 4 banger hyundai tiburon atm, gets about 30mpg average.. how much of a dent is my pocket gonna take? i really like the looks of this truck and would definetly love to have something i can stick more than a shoebox in...lol.
Well, the mileage is going to be about half of what you are getting with your Tiburon, plus the diesel fuel costs more per gallon so you are going to take a huge hit in fuel cost. The 7.3 should have plenty of life left in it at 179K provided it has been properly maintained, but don't expect the truck to be problem free. Be prepared to be replacing things like wheel bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends, U-Joints, etc. Those things are likely to be getting worn out at that mileage unless they have already been replaced.
I also came to the Super Duty from a Tiburon. I had a 2005 GT with the V6 and 5 speed. Went from having that and a 95 F-150 to just the 2005 F-350.
What's the price?
Also, might want to double check that it is the 7.3 and not the 6.0. 2003 was a transition year for the diesels and only the very early 2003s had the 7.3, so it's pretty rare to find one. The 2003 6.0s were known for having lots of problems.
awesome, thanks for the reply.. asking 10900 for it.
it should be in great condition for 10,900...
the 2003's had the extra sound insulation so they are a nice quiet ride compared to earlier diesels. Definitely check the oil pan for rust, it is a very pricey repair. check under the bed for rust especially along the supports. Check the back of the motor for oil, check in the valley (between the heads) for oil.
20mpg is not uncommon, 15 is low, 17-18 is average.
