Over the last week or so I've had a bucking when trying to maintain speed going up hill. If I keep in the throttle it will not do it, it doesn't do it on flats, and if I get on it from a stop it will stumble for a second. I assume that with 155k on the coils (25k on the plugs) I've got one or more going bad. If this is the case, how long should it be before the CEL comes on? I've got around 250 miles on it since it started happening, and one ride over the weekend was in hilly country so it was happening a lot. If I had it scanned now before a CEL comes on, will there be codes to read? I've got a 10 pack of coils on their way in any event. Thoughts on the situation and diagnosis welcomed.
I always had to 'coax' mine into giving me a mil. I would put it in drive and hold the brake while accelerating the engine until I got the miss. For some reason it always missed worse in that condition.
My scanner shows "pending" faults and that is helpful in these cases. I have had 2 COPs go bad and both never left a CEL on... but pending codes showed me which cyl to attack.
I had the same problem. No CEL, no codes, hesitation and slight bucking under slight acceleration, no hesitation when I stepped on it. I even drove it around with the scanner plugged in giving me live data, and nothing. I finally got a code when I was spraying down the engine the same day to remove dust. I didn't soak it and the spray was light, and that is when I got the COP code. Replaced it and was good to go.
Thanks for the comments. Got the COPs today, now onto the fun. I hadn't ever even looked for them before, holy crap! How the hell am I going to get in there to do this??
