'70 Crew Cab....worth anything?
I used to post here a couple of years ago, but then my '67 got creamed at an intersection by some idiot running a red light. This site has a bit of a different look. I have no idea what vB code is.
The crew cabs are a good investment no matter which way you go. I have a 70 crew 4x4 (not quite done with it yet) and I whouldn't trade it for anything. As far as selling it there is people out there hunting these trucks down. If it's in as good of shape as you have described and its at a reasonable price then go for it and if it turns out not being what you want run it by the site. Who knows I might be in the market for another one pretty soon.
Also the longbed is an item alot of people like on these. Let us know if you decide to buy it and get some pics up.

It serves a dual purpose, lots of interior room (more than most cars) and its still a truck.
As far as it having a resale value, that pretty much depends on how much you're paying for it.(BTW- How much)
I know that most of us with these older trucks get pretty poor fuel mileage, and I would expect that a one ton crew to get even worse. This could end up being an issue if you try to resell it.
But if is something you want, then get it.
Specially if the price is right for you.

Go for it.
The new and late model crew cab market has exploded in recent years. Just start counting CC's the next time youre on the highway.
A ripple effect of CC popularity is there is a strong demand for older CC's by guys who have newer ones. The scarcity of these old trucks is well documented.
As long as trucks are popular, old CCs will be very desirable. Skip
Thanks for the responses to my inquiry about value of a '70 Crew Cab. One of you (can't remember who) asked about the price. That's a valid question since I was asking about resale value. He's currently asking $3,000. Last week he had it in the paper for $4,000. I sense some softness still in the price. When I stopped to look at it, he had a '97 Powerstroke crew in the driveway with a temp tag in the window....tells me he needs to liquidate the '70 to help pay for the "new" toy. I'm thinking of putting on a mask and a six-shooter, going over there and offering $2,000 just to see what he says.

PS Anyone have an answer for that gold paint under the current beige? Was that a factory color? I don't remember ever seeing Ford trucks wearing that color back then and I am old enough to remember that far back!
Sounds like a pretty decent deal.
Like Skipstowin said, crews are a big demand item nowadays.
If he's gone from $4K, to $3K, sounds like you have room to dicker with the price.
I'd take $2,500 with, and offer $2K
Either way, if you end up selling it, you'll be able to get your money back and maybe then some more on top.

Well I still haven't pulled the trigger on this deal. Too many other financial moves have to happen first. But I did take the truck home today on a test drive. Thought I'd see if it looked OK in my driveway!

Not bad, I decided. There are a couple of big dings right on the side ridge where someone pulled a little too close to an immoveable object.

The front seat has a worn out spot on the passenger side, which I thought was weird. Usually that happens first on the driver side. Also, the back seat has several splits in the cover. The steering wheel is cracked in all the usual locations. The horn is wired to a pushbutton screwed to the dash. There's an aftermarket cassette player and a graphic equalizer, but no speakers! Just a wad of old speaker wire on the floor under the gas pedal. I'm thinking a new headliner with 4 speakers built in. The rearview mirror (no laying on the dash) needs to be reglued to the windwhield. The door seal rubber is also coming unglued on the rear doors. Has anyone installed 3 point belts? I notice threaded holes in the pillars to install shoulder harness belts.

I didn't center this shot very well. The grille has a couple of broken bars, nothing we haven't seen before. There's a spot of cracked bondo on the left front edge of the hood. The engine has an exhaust leak where the manifold meets the exhaust pipe. It will go 70 mph just fine with no wobbles or shimmies, but it takes a long time to get there. Seller claims it's because it has such tall gears in the rear. Many years ago I had a '67 Fairlane that had an ID tag bolted to the diff. The tag said what gear ratio was installed. Couldn't find anything like that on this diff. On the bright side, I also couldn't see any oily drips coming from the diff either. Transmission was also devoid of leaks, but I expected that since the transmission is supposed to be new. There was some oily residue on the oil pan, but it wasn't dripping on the ground anywhere. Overall a pretty tight ship.

The wife wants to know how big a deal is it to add some sort of aftermarket A/C. I'm sure somebody on this board has done that. How much does it $mart to do that? Also, how do you positively ID the engine? Is there a code somewhere? I can't find a tag or sticker under the hood. What are the identifying characteristics, visually, of a 360, 390 or any other engine that was offered in this truck? Thanks.
I like this truck. If I can swing something (need to sell anther vehicle or 2 first) I'm going to park this in my driveway permanently.
You can look on Ebay or http://www.car-part.com
That is a sweet CC!
Are you in Colorado on the western slope? (Mountains look awesome in your pics).
I think that truck should go easily for $3000-$3500. Grab it any way you can! Skip
That Crew looks to be in really good shape I'd ****** it up quickly also. About Your A/C here in nevada you can almost find ford units in the local junkyard weekly but I opted to go with an aftermarket from Old Air Products, It was around the figure of 1000 like peviously mentioned. My kit had all the goodies you need to put it in and an additional price for an adaptor to mount a rotary compressor to the york style bracketry. I looks slick let me know if you want some pics. On identifying you motor I'd start going through some galleries and checking out other peoples pics to see if they are similar to what you might have or just pick up a shop manual from the local parts store if you really set on this truck and then you'll already have your manual and there is lots of pics in there. One last thing once you've got the taste of the crewcab fever you can't go back! I think you just might be hooked already if its visited you driveway. Good luck and let us all know how things go.

Nice looking crew, nice looking view. Not sure if you have the need of this crew or you just have the desire. either way once you get her home, like a good women, you'll want her to stay.
I love my 71' 250. I can take the wife, two kids, a dog, and a pop-up pulling a 18' boat. All in one trip, one vehicle. Can't do that with the wifes Bonneville.
As far as the a/c like 460 crew, aftermarket is the way to go. My other half is pushing me as well to get cold air blowin. Here's Old Air's page for that truck. And probally what 460 has installed.

You came to the right place if you're looking for others to convince you. Go ahead. Pick it up. You know you want to.
Think of how much sleep you'll loose if it gets away.
There, I did my part. Good luck with it. Post us if you do wind up getting it.
