Boost question

I see people post now and then about a limp mode and their truck only making 15-18 lbs of boost when this happens. What type of boost are you all making with your 6.7 when you go full peddle to the floor? Mine seems to get up to half on the gauge which I believe is 20 lbs if I'm not mistaken! Am I missing something here (wouldn't be the first time) so I thought I would ask.

All I can say is that the most boost you will ever see on this motor in stock form is 25psi. I think that is the programmed limit. I consistently see 21 when I need it but it cruises around 10-14 most of the time.

When I'm towing, I will see as high as 21-22(just above half on the gauge.) 10-15 around town.

Yeah, I was wondering about the turbo readings as well. When I'm going down a flat interstate with the 5er, no wind, mine is about 5 lbs. It is very sensitive however, I can see it increase while going up and over an overpass on the highway but never hear the engine's sound change at all. Climbing the Sandia's, climbing up to Flagstaff or Tehachapi will see it climb to about a max of 20 lbs.

I can hear mine whine at slow speed when accelerating slowly but not at all any other time. Of course I have a chassis cab so I guess it's a different turbo than you guys with the sled pulling pickups. A puny 300 hp here, but boy does it pull the 5er effortlessly.

She's not going to last long at that rate! I remember when guys thought it was cool to make 40 psi on a stock 6.0 turbo.........for about a month!

Keep us updated on your progress with the H&S. It seems like a lot of the tuned trucks that are pushed hard (like any tuned truck isn't) are losing turbos.

Cool is relative.....I guess.

10 months tuned and no issues (yet?). I will definately let you know if (when?) she lets go. And I will pay to fix it out of my own pocket.

I know of 2 tuned trucks that have lost turbos. Both were H&S plus aFe stage 2 (same as me). But there could definately be a lot more out there. I KNOW there are a lot of TROLS out there with turbos down on tuned trucks.......

Thanks

I've only maxed out at 21 PSI (needle slightly past 20 PSI line) and that's more than enough power for my needs.

I never see much past 20.
unlike the previous 2 trucks that were always north of 30 when going up a hill.

Thanks for all the great replies. I am glad to hear that around 20 lbs is normal and I'm not missing something. I was about to go test drive another truck just to see if it was the same. Power is awesome on mine just been wondering if it was normal and it seems to be so all is good to go!

I will not be tuning mine anytime soon but would sure like to go for a ride in a tuned one sometime just to see what type of power these things can really make. good luck to all those who are tuned, enjoy that power and here's to no problems down the road. I think these truck are overbuilt in many aspects so I feel that most tuned trucks will be just fine IMO.
