Tornado: Gimmick?

think about it....with any kind of throttle plate partially open(normal driving) whats swilring air going to do when it hits it?????

even if it made it past that, hows it going to stay swirly all through tthe intke runners....in my mind its just a damn restriciton. One thing fun to do is get drunk with your buddies late at night and call their techline and ask them some simple questions. itsfunny.

I have also seen some magazine articel where someone put one on a mustang and it lost like 15-20 horses....hahahah

It's funny you never see a review of the items in any of the magazines. Guess they would loose advertising money if they did that

Yep, that's what I asked earlier in another forum. A few guys came on with quotes from other message boards that said that it didn't work and one guy said that he took his back after it caused a difference in idle or something like that. Two auto parts stores here locally are selling them with a money back guarantee. So far, the one says that he has multiple repeat customers (about 125 sold) with about 8 or so returned. I think he mentioned that it was the v-10 ford owners that seemed to return them, but I can't be sure anymore. I'm still not sold on them, but I give them more credit and have a more open mind than to just write them off immediately.

Tornado: Gimmick?

I would be happy to give this 5.4 Tornado "GIMMICK" to someone to give a try. It didn't work on my truck other than make a lot of noise coming out of my modified airbox. My mileage went from 13 to 14 depending on how I drove it, To a firm 11 no matter how I drove, with no seat of the pants H/P gain. Oh yeah btw the Tornado was givin to me by someone who it also did not work for.

Tornado: Gimmick?

Ok you want a story about someone who's tried it. That would be me. I have been trying to get my freaking mileage up for so long I decided to try the tornado. Put it in while is till had my stock intake and it went from 14.5 mpg to about 13.5 mpg so it accually dropped it. I took it out and and it went back up to 14.5. Shortly after I bought an airaid intake and that improved my hp and raised my mileage up to about 15-16mpg, I decided to try the tornado with the intake and I did not see any difference in mileage or performance so I took it out. Since then I have installed a Helix air tower (which accually works) a 75mm throttlebodie and a mass airflow sensor. When I purchased the MAF sensor and the throttlebodie I noticed the site I was buying those from said the tornado is supposed to give you 20hp so I put it in while I was installing the other things. I had been driving my truck for a while and someone in another forum suggested I take the tornado out because it was probably not doing any good so I did. Shortly after my check engine light came on. I have a superchip micro tuner which has a diagnostic reader on it so I plugged it in and it said my engine was running to lean. So That is proof enough for me that the tornado is just something that accually restricts airflow.

I used it on my 97 F150 a few years back and I didn't notice any improvement in mileage or performance. In fact, the darn thing would n't even stay in place. It would slip out of its slot just aft of the maf sensor after a few miles of driving around. Don't waste your money.

Tornado: Gimmick?

The only reason it spins is high pressure seeks low pressure. This does nothing until it actualy is in the Combustion chamber to start with.

That's the reason NASCAR puts a special dimple pattern on the head deck. This of course is done by a pre-programmed computer that knows where to put them..

If these things actually worked the automakers would have designed them in to increase CAFE numbers. They have spent countless hours trying ANYTHING to improve those numbers.

Any perceived increases in mileage are just wishfull thinking on the part of the owner mainly due to changed driving habits. Controlled testing will show no change or actual decreases.

I always crack up when I see the comercial for the tornado. TH epart that makes me laugh the most is when the older guy with his young girlfriend, siad they put it in thier corvette.

The guy goes, "I don't know much about my car, all I know is it drives really fast, and has a great stereo". Typpical yuppie!! THose are the kind of people that buy these tornados!!

Tornado: Gimmick?

I have tried the tornado on my 93 4.0 ranger. No differance noticed in either direction. I always top off my fuel tank and record mileage. After not noticing any difference I disconected the battery to reset the ECU and tried it again. No difference. Later I got an air intake and my mileage dropped about 2 mpg, but it was also winter and it got extremely cold after I installed it. I have since removed the tornado and then my milaeage went up, maybe a little better than stock. Performance went up to, noticeably better than stock, even after switching from 31's to 32's. I currently get an average of 17 to 18, and before the tornado and filter was getting a solid 17. Save your money, take a fools advice.
