Do FI pumps fail internally?
I have a 85 6.9 N/A. New mechanical transfer pump. Both the filters are good and new. Good volume and fuel pressure to the schrade valve on the side of the fuel filter housing. Have good volume all the way to the inlet port of the FI pump head.
There is 12v at the fuel shut-off solenoid at the FI pump. In fact, I put a jumper wire straight from the battery to the solenoid just to make sure. It definitely has a 'click' when it has voltage.
Six of the fuel injector lines are loose, in fact, pretty much off, to bleed the air.
Have cranked and cranked on it, with all the above.
Nothing.
Dust bunnies and cotton *****.
Dry.
Nothing at the injection lines at all. No moisture in any form.
Took the oil filler neck off, and the FI pump is turning, all three bolts are there, plus the woodruff key is in place. Timing isn't really an issue, because the timing gear cover hasn't been off, and besides, this is about fuel not getting to the lines at all.
Anybody ever have a FI pump fail internally? Guess the only thing I didn't check was fuel return, but, if it isn't going through the injectors, then there probably isn't much going on to the return.
It's a new one on me. Usually, a FI pump will just wear out to the point it won't make enough pressure to pop off the injectors. In this case, it has no fuel at all going through.
Ideas?
