That's just not right they are doing that to you Ian. Small town life for me. We have an ordinance to keep the town cleaned up of stray cars, etc. It's kind of enforced, although all you need to not have anyone say anything is have non licensed cars fenced in your yard which I do.
I had to laugh as the b_tchy lady who complains the most and tries to enforce it came up to the neighbor of my shop who has kind of a mess around. He's an older biker guy, about 70 yrs old and retired. He ripped her a$$ up and down, she hasn't bothered him since. I've got quite a few stories like that, just thought I'd share one. Nothing like middle of nowhere small town life. There is NO WAY I could live in an area like you are Ian. I hope it all works out for you but I kind of agree with what Krewat said also.
Tell them you'll take the bed off and just have frame rails. And for their record it's legal on the road, licensed, has insurance, and can drive. It's not a commercially licensed vehicle.
If they don't like the way your truck looks they can buy you a $1000 bed and paint it.
I'm sorry but any one who says I can't park my truck on my property will get told to get off my property or they'll wish they had. I live in a subdivision but the properties in my name not someone elses. This kind of bull just irritates me.
Yeah, I'm not on their side or anything, but you must understand your enemy in order to defeat him.
The true "enemy" is the HOA.
The tow company is who I need to defeat in this battle.
The tow company is the "collateral damage" in their (HOA) game....and they don't care and the tow company doesn't realize they are the pawn.
When I show you all my "anti-thief" protection...you'll (all) get a laugh. It is un beatable w/o breaking something.
This should slow them down or deter them all together!
I back in to my parking spot up against the curb (or close to it). At the curb there is a side walk then a small path of grass and a big tree (a tow truck cannot get behind it). The way to swipe my vehicle is to grab the front and put dollies under the rear wheels and drive away. I have made a deterent for the tow truck operator. When I deploy this device it locks in the reciever (with a key too). The piece of metal with be in the way to connect the dollies together. I know he can still get it if he breaks out a jack and all that noise but I should be outside to chit chat with him before he defeats this contraption.
I am proud of my invention.
Here are 3 pics of it but the best pic won't load for some reason. So w/o further ado:
I had a feeling this was gonna be epic.... I was thinking you could get one of those boots that clamp over the tire and thru the wheel; this is much cooler, and homemade.
Unfortunately, a lot of goody-two-shoes types TOTALLY misinterpret simple actions like this. Don't be surprised if that "board" doesn't get all worked up over this "aggressive gesture" on your part. Nothin' wrong with being prepared for any situation; it's just that a lot of "group-think" types don't see it that way. Well, hopefully it won't come to any showdown; good luck.
I will keep you all up to date.
Saturday night is a "towing night" b/c they are closed Sunday so they get an extra day of storage. I can't wait to give you all an update tomorrow!
