There are no means to disconnect the wheels, hubs, or half shafts from each other. Even on models with the 2H position, the wheels, hubs, and half shaft always turn whenever the vehicle moves.

Yep. That's why I removed the whole thing from the cv joints back. it has helped mileage but I'm not sure how much of it is that or a rebuilt engine.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the front wheel hubs need the cv joint shaft and wheel nut in them? I replaced a wheel hub and went ahead and put the cv spline shaft back in, but it looks pretty unnecessary if you don't have the rest of the 4wd in there. I noticed it does have a seal bearing surface on it, so I guess it keeps it cleaner inside the bearing.

Did you remember to ask them to send the bolts with the drive shaft?

it was an ebay deal. i doubt theyll have the bolts with it. theres a fastenal store near here that im sure i can find the correct 8grade bolts at. 4 in the rear and not sure how many in the front.
damn this truck! after i say how great it runs, it rains heavily here overnight and today its stumbling and missing while slowly accelerating. if i punch it, it doesnt miss at all, also runs fine at cruising speed. has gotten alot better as the day goes on tho. barely doing it now. i even drove in the reain the other day with no probs whatsoever.
got new plugs and going to go thru the wiring this weekend. anyway, im hijacking my own thread lol

Water may be leaking onto the engine at the #3 and 4 plug area. That could be a bad seal at the hood and cowl. Some have replaced the seal while others find a way to deflect or redirect the water.

moto, hey i think u were right about that. the only variables were the temp drop and heavy rain while not moving. since then the truck has ran perfect again and the temp has dropped even further here. im going to run a garden hose this weekend and find out where the leak is.
thank you

UPDATE: i installed the new front drive shaft. uses 12 1.75 30mm bolts btw. thought everything was fine until i went beyond 30mph. started pulling hard to the right and making a loud sound from the rear. tried it in 4L and it pulled like crazy to the right! like the back right tire was almost locked??? im confused now.
anyway, i rememberd the fuse 104 and pulled it. now it runs fine but obviously just in 2wd still. wonde whats wrong?

tried 4L again in a gravel parking lot. it will hardly move. each tire will jerk suddenly and peel for a split second, then another tire will do it. almost like all the power suddenly goes to one wheel. gotta be a transfer case problem cuz when i pull the 104 fuse it runs perfect just like it did before it had a front drive shaft on it.

As a poor attempt at humor; I guess now you know why they sold it without the drive shaft. Are all 4 tires the same size and with about the same tread depth?

Without seeing it in action, my guess isn that the T/case needs a rebuild or replacement before that first heavy Illinois snow storm hits, which is due pretty soon.

yep, ive got a small transmission shop right down the street(just my luck) and im gonna have them give me a quote probably. i dont have time anymore to work on stuff. plus, i know engines very well, transmissions not so well. i will update later after the fix is discovered.

btw, its not throwing any lights on the dash but could it be a speed sensor issure on one of the wheels? just a quick thought...
