I've replaced the little plastic turn signal cancel goodie 3-4 times now and I'm sure getting tired of it. Last time I got a whole junkyard switch unit in good shape but the thing broke a tab AGAIN after a couple months. It's a tilt wheel.
Any ideas as to why I have so much trouble with this thing? I hesitate to spring for a new one from Ford (for prolly 1/2 the cost of a replacement truck) just to break it again in a couple months.
The plastic cams are definitely weak, I've owned my truck for about four and a half years and I'm on my third complete switch. OEM ones are probably near impossible to find, so I wouldn't bother looking for one unless you have time or special connections. Aftermarket ones are in the $80-90 range new, but they're not very sturdy either. The first one I used to replace it was defective, another one was put in when it got inspected and one of the tabs in that snapped after a few months.
The pin that goes around the steering column wasn't set it the right in the wheel. I had problems for months, then took it apart and rebuilt it. It's been working great for a month... hopefully it continues to work.
