Brake lights

My brake lights dont come on until they are completely depressed. I think it may be the switch that connects to the pedal, but how do i adjust it in such a way that the light will come on sooner so everyone will quit telling me my brake lights are out?

The switch is usually threaded and can be adjusted. It may also be slipping or sticking and need to be replaced. They are usually fairly cheap.

The switch is located at the upper end of the brake pedal arm on the inboard side.

From the factory service manual;
CAUTION: Do not press, pull or otherwise move the brake pedal while installing
the stoplamp switch or the speed control deactivator switch. These
switches must be installed with the booster push rod attached to the
brake pedal and with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Installing
these switches with the brake pedal in any other position will result
in incorrect adjustment and may damage the switches.
