I am going to put new Glow Plugs in before winter and was going to get the Stancor relay until I found this relay(eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices and manual controller on Ebay. What do you all think about controlling the glow plugs manually? What do you think about the relay being sold by this seller? Thanks for any replies.
I personally feel that the computer does a pretty good job itself. If the glow plug system is operating properly, then there should be no need try and operate it manually.
There is a recent thread where someone installed one of those relays with the manual switch and now their truck won't start. Not sure if the relay is the cause but it is an odd coincidence that the issue developed immediately afterwards.
The system does basically that... Uses glow plugs when needed and shortens the activation time depending upon a couple factors until the engine is warm and then no longer uses them...
You aren't going to spare your gp's or relay any longer life by having a switch. Just stick with what ya know.
personally I love my manual setup but I was also forced to do it because my pcm is messed up and wont ground the relay itself, was a $10 cost versus the hundreds of bucks for a new pcm so I'm happy
