I have all new hardware on my parking brake assemblies, wheels and everythings back on I'm having a really hard time turning the start adjuster through the backing plate.
I was thinking about going to the store and buying that brake spoon thing.
is it worth the few dollars, I been trying to use flathead screw drivers and various other handtools but cant really get the start wheels to turn and its extremely aggravating
you can either use the spoon, a #3 or larger flat head,or sometimes even a chisel will work and depending on how off you are you can drive in reverse (works on drum brakes) which is how they self adjust.
I was assuming that drums brakes were the same as the parking brakes. I found a couple pics and see that backing up wont help. I don't know why ford didn't use self adjusting E-brakes.

yeah probably to save on costs or something
well ill either pull off the rotors and adjust it that way or try my luck with one of these brake spoon tools, I tried all sorts of crap in my garage but cant really get them to turn
Found it impossible to adjust from the outside because of limited slip and lack of space. Used instead an AMMCO Brake Shoe Setting Gauge model no. 8650. This tool is similar to inside/outside caliper. Use inside against brake drum and then adjust outside (minus 0.025 inches) for shoes adjustment. Worked like a charm!
Just take the drum off and adj till it won't go on then back off 1/2 turn or so. Put drum on push emer brake then let off...recheck. You need to cycle the emer brake to set the shoes//center etc.
I found it easier to use the brake tool but even then the star thingy isn't shaped correctly it seems..Try more of a pushing force than prying..
02 f-250 and parking bk pedal just went to the floor like a broken cable, checked cables fine, checked movement of levers on top of backing plates fine, replaced shoes (tho' old ones were not worn out) replaced expensives seals (ugh), bolted rotors on, adjusted shoes till they dragged slightly, depressed pedal and it went right to the floor.... Since there is no other way to adjust cable throw I asked one dealer if the parking brake foot pedal is an auto-adjusting type, they knew nothing, asked another and they said yes it is a self adjusting one. Pulled out EEC to inspect bk assembly and found nothing visually wrong but did notice that the pedal travels 1/3 of its throw before any pressure is put on cable. Not enough pressure to significantly affect system. Put a cable clamp on main cable at divider to take up slack, it helped, still no good.... So the question is, is this a compounding system built into the park bk pedal???? One dealer could not explain, other knew nothing and I can't see replacing something that doesn't need replacement $$$$ any body alse experiance this?
There is a balancer attached to the two rear cables on the frame under the gas inlet approx is it even? unloaded and loaded? They should be equal.. even if one brake is not right you will get what you have. The rear cable that pulls up the farthest may be the one with the issue. If they are both even then look for a cable that came out of position I/E not in its anchor spot..The reason why no one can tell you anything is the emer brake has few issues
