Hey Guys! I have a 79 f150 and am looking for some gauges for a tac and oil gauge. I found some gauge pods to put the gauges in from jcwhitney, but they're the ones that mount to the pillar.
I was wondering if anyone has used them on a 79. I see them all the time on the newer F series, and they look really nice. There called GaugeCage universal gauge pod, theres a double (which I am looking at) and a single.
So anyone used these on an older model truck? Thanks!

I haven't seen those, I know we just got some universal gauge pods that attach to the top of the dash in at work. If you look in my gallery, you can see how I replaced the ashtray in my 79 with a dual gauge panel. Of course if you smoke, it may not be such a good idea.
I've seen these pods before but not for a 79. Like everything else, I bet they only start making them for 1980 and above
As most of you know since you have 79's, if you look in a catalog for things for your truck, they usually only start in 80! That gets my goat!!! But I wouldn't trade it for a thing!
Syco - love how you did the gauges in the cig tray location. I would love to see some pics of it closer so that I could see how you did it and how it looks from the drivers seat. If you have any, I'd be interested in checking them out.
Gidde up, the jcwhitney site says that they are a universal pod for every year, they may require some cutting and molding though. Go to Jcwhitney, type in guage for the search, click guages and horns, then guages, then go down to the sunpro guage cage. I know, I hate how everythings for post 80 trucks!
Syco, thats a great idea, sticking the guages in the ash tray spot. I may end up doing that. How did you strap on your tac to your steering column?
I put some better pics of my gauge installation in my gallery for you guys to see. It was pretty easy to do, I didn't have to drill or anything. I just removed the ashtray, and the bracket that it slides on. The mounting holes for the panel lined up almost perfectly with the original holes for the ashtray bracket. I had to tweak the panel a little. I also cut the plug off the ashtray light as well, and used the wire to run the lights in the gauges.
Thanks for posting those picts, I just might have to go that route. It looks really good, and its probably a cheaper way for me to go too. Thanks for all your input everyone!

as far as a tach goes... if your truck is not equipped with A/C you can get a tach that's small enough to fit right above your headlight and wiper switches and use a dremel to cut the hole. Mine was from auto meter
