Question on cams?
Ok my truck just jumped timing so I need to put a timing chain on it. I also have a lifter ticking so I plan on taking care of both problems at once. I still have a 2brrl, with no plans on switching over to a 4brrl anytime soon.
78 150 4x4 400 4speed.
What lift would yall reconmend? I want something a little better than stock, and it needs to work with stock rockers.
Also what gaskets do I need?

Depends on what you are using the truck for. Cant go too big with stock springs. I think it might be under .500, which I think you are looking at anyway. I am running with the comp cams 265DEH and am pretty happy with it, but also have rebuilt aussie heads, 4bbl carb and manifold. Might pay to actually talk to a techie at one of the suppliers, tell him what your set up is and they can make a suggestion. What is the rest of the engine like because what you are doing is exactly how I ended up on the slippery slope of a long winded engine rebuild?

The cam you are looking at has a .484 lift and should be ok with the stock springs. However for a few extra bucks why not change out the springs with the cam and kit? That way IF you go a stronger cam you'll be pretty much set up top. As crsmiffy said you are on the slippery side of a long engine build. STOP and figure where you want to go with your truck, set a course and don't deviate from it. Good luck in your choices and don't be shy about asking questions, that's the ONLY way that you will learn. John

pretty happy with the 265DEH, but I still recommend talking to a cam supplier about what you have amd may want in the future. You should be able to suggest a cam that will work with what you have, but will benefit from manifolds and carbs in the future which are relatively easy to do. I dont have the complete article, only pages from a 400 rebuild in a magazine from several years ago. it had a cam similiar to the 265, they kept the 2bbl manifold, put a 500 holley on it and ported the original cast exhausts (to save money). All about air/port velocity to maintain torque and got very good numbers.
Ditto on the springs, but something rings a bell about the collets/spring retainers on the valves being suitable for more powerful applications.
