Swapping new into old
I have a 2000 model F-150 with a 4.2 v-6 that has been wrecked but the motor and transmission is good. I found a 80's model f-150 and the body is straight, what would I have to do to put the newer motor in the older truck? I will have both complete trucks will the ecm plugs interchange? The older truck has a straight 6 in it now. Can anyone help me?

you would need to swap the new truck's entire drivetrain,computer,and associated wiring into the old truck,nothing is going to be plug and play. might be better off just driving the old truck with the 300 if it runs good.

Over at the F150 Online forum, a guy did a similar swap when he dropped a 4.6 V8 into an I300 truck. The project took him nearly 4 years if I remember correctly. You can read about it here: New member with a project: 1995 2WD F150 with 4.6 SOHC and single turbo - F150online Forums
