Can someone please tell me how to determine the number of splines on the rear axles of my Dana 70 differential. I have an OEM Dana 70, with 4.10 gears in my '76 F-350. Is this info stamped on the housing? on the tag?
Also, for this vintage Dana 70, will it be a "U", "B", or "HP"?
Dana 70 Rear Found under light pickup trucks info:
Splines: In my Spicer books all 67+ axle have 35 splines! Unless they are from a Ford F-350 truck with dual rear wheels. "1967-1975 Ford F-350's dual rear wheels & other" have axle shafts 34414-1 or 35368-1 and thus 23 splined 1.5" axle shaft. One note, they sure have a lot of No-Spins in them.

Thanks for all the replies/good info. Now how do I tell if I have a Dana 70 B or U--I know it's not an HD. Is there a "plain" Dana 70 without a letter code?
Here's a link to a Dana catalog for all their differentials used in '67 to '78 vehicles. Lots of good info. I'm not sure the URLs are hyperlinked correctly.
