Focus blend door
Argh. Reoccurring problem with my 07 Focus.
The HVAC blend door gets stuck in either extreme position. (If you use the control **** to direct all of the air flow to the defroster, it is VERY difficult to change the direction of air flow. If you use the control **** to direct all of the air flow to the dash, it is VERY difficult to change the direction of the air flow.)
Ford engineered a wonderful ten speed brake cable type of control mechanism that conveys the physical position of the switch to the blend door itself.
...and charges $55 for a replacement.
I've purchased two of those control set ups from junkyards, and two from Ford. The latest of which is brand new still in the box because I refuse to reinstall it and have the same issue.
I've pulled the stereo, the center console, air ducts, but simply cannot get to the entire blend door. I CAN just reach the edge of it through exposed duct work. Feels like it has a rubber gasket around the edge of the door, and that gasket is deteriorating. I put on a cotton glove, and cleaned that gasket as well as my fingers could reach.
How in the world do I get to this thing??
