what dose star pattern on piston mean? the 02 motor i have had water in the oil pan and in the cylinders so i broke it down to clean it up to store away. all of the pistons have the same star pattern on them. David Bulla thinks it is for the timing advanced is this so. if so it is strange because the truck was a county truck, and that dont put chips on them? can this happen on stock programing? how long dose it have to be run to get the pattern?
It should be yes, in a perfect well maintained nothing every going wrong world. 3 motors I have had apart all had a star to some extent 2 of them were not very far outreaching. My last motor the star pattern was nearly reaching the cylinder walls, that is a little more aggressive issue with timing problems from what I have heard/read/seen.
I knew it was timing related but didn't realize the stock tuning when cold was advancing the timing so much. Must be part of the reason Jody holds back the tunes till closer to operating temp.
