More fuel issues

Here is the deal. This all started the other day when I installed the new injector kit. Truck is still having problems. When I have all the return lines connected together the truck will not run. Won't even start. I unhook any one line it runs fine other than shoots out fuel. I thought the one way valve was glogged and not letting fuel pass through it so I drilled it out. The truck runs, but smokes a lot. I ordered a new valve and installed it, then nothing. Would not start. Put the old valve back on and it would atleast start. I notice when I took the line off the fuel filter (return line) the fuel is shooting out. When I take the return line off the IP it also shoots fuel out. So for some reason it appears that fuel is shooting in the same way coming from both filter and IP. I don't think that is supposed to happen. Shouldn't the pressure of the fuel be passing in a loop and not coliding in the center?

Did you mistakenly hook the rear of each bank to each other instead of to the tank return lines?

Had to ask as you said you have them all hooked together!

I hooked it just like I found it. There is a good possibilty that whoever changed it last didn't have it done right and so I then hooked it up wrong myself. But yes both banks are hooked together. Does anyone have a diagram on how it is supposed to look?

The return line routing changes depending on the motor and the year. Later years there is a brass 'tee' at the rear on the drivers side of the engine that both sides hook into, hte return line to the tank then goes from there. Some of the earlier years had a different arrangement though.

I did a quick google search for IDI + fuel diagrams and found exactly what I was looking for. It appears that the brass "T" connection had broken off or was missing and the previous owner had skipped through it and made it work. I found the return line, installed a new "T" connection and brought it back to the original Ford setup. Truck fired right up. No problems at all. From day one it has always had start up issues. I guess that is the bad thing about getting a used truck, fixing all the "fixed" stuff from the previous owner. Oh well I can't wait until the morning to see how she fires up. I can mark this off my list and move on to welding in new sheetmetal in the bed of the truck. Thank you guys for your all your help.
