i hope some one here can help me out... i have a 94 ranger 4.0 4x4 5sp manual trans im having issues with 2nd gear trans has been rebuilt a few times... ok i have a 96 explorer 4.0 4x4 i was wondering if the trans out of the explorer will work in the ranger thank you for any help in advance
I would guess yes, best way is to either go to a salvage yard and check their interchangeability book, or just do a search on one of the parts places like autozone and check part numbers for a rebuild see if they are the same.
good idea thanks i checked and both years use the same trans rebuild kit i guess the only issue i would have is am i gona need to swap computers so the trans shifts properly
What transmission is in the explorer? If it is an automatic and you want to swap it you will have alot of headache as that is a different auto transmission that is found in 94's. You will need to swap out the harness associated with the 96 as that is an electronic tranmission and the 94's were not.
If it is the M5OD-R1 then it is a direct swap.

I was having an issue with my tranny. mostly going into 2nd gear. I had pepboys brand ATf in it........I switched to Mobil 1FS $10 quart. it improved tremendously. I obviously don't know exactly what your issue is but if it is a shifting issue it might be worth the $30. I also added 3 ounces of lubegurd red(Ihad it around) I am not sure how much that matters
my guess is the tranny would swap fine but as posted check with a junkyard interchange.......
