Replaced sending unit, checked wiring and power through the circuit. As far as I can tell the guage itself may be faulty. Is this common problem for this model year? Can I replace just the fuel guage or would it have to be the entire instrument cluster or should I just install an aftermarket guage?
I pulled the instrument cluster and fuel/Oil pressure guage unit out and directly tested the fuel guage. I found a burnt spot (open) on the positive+ power circuit to the guage in the flexible circuit board. It appears the guage itself is faulty also. I can get the needle to swing one way, but not the other. I suspect whatever caused the short in the positive circuit, may have fried the guage also. Hopefully a replacement will fix it.
This is a picture of the complete unit with a close up of the guage itslef removed from the unit in the bottom half of the picture. I'll try to follow up once I try a replacment.
