Burning Smell with New Truck

Hey all...I'm sure this is normal but wanted to see what the feedback is on this. I just picked up my new 2011 F150 SCrew with Ecoboost on friday (pictures soon). I noticed after driving it a little, there is a noticeable burning smell...almost like an oil smell. It is even more noticeable after I had been driving with a little more throttle..I.E. getting the turbos working a little. I attribute this to the normal coatings of oils on the parts but it still is a little concerning at times. I'm sure I'm worried about nothing and this is normal...thoughts?

Perfectly normal. All of my new cars have done that, including my latest truck.

My EB did the same thing. Took about 1000 miles for the smell to "burn" off.

I dunno, but I never noticed a "burning" smell in any of my new trucks. I certainly would monitor this smell and if doesn't go away after a couple months, I can probably say it's with your transmission.

My girlfriend's daughter has a Cougar and we'd smell something similar but there were no outward oil leaks anywhere that could indicate the source of the burning. Eventually, the tranny went out...

Oh yes, my bad!

By all means, dear OP, carry on! No need to quibble over such a trite issue such as a pedestrian odor.

It's a truck by golly, and it's going to smell, leak, squeak and heck, don't mind the odd part that falls off now and then...

Poifectly normal!

Oil smell

Just brought home a new F150 Ecoboost -- with same burning oil smell nd assumed it is normal for a few 10s of miles until everything burns off from the factory.

Do you all recommend me getting the bed coated with that spray-on bed liner?

Both my truck and my wife's Fusion done this for about 1000 miles. Can still smell it sometimes in my wife's Fusuon after it is driven hard. Our work trucks have the same smell when they are new.

This has happened to me on my last two new vehicles. And occasionally after oil changes on one car I owned where it was impossible to keep the oil from draining right on a flex joint in the exhaust system.
If it isn't gone by 1000 miles, start being worried.

I suspect the smell is the corrosion protection burning off the exhaust system. It was pretty strong smell with my Ecoboost for a good month. Almost to the point that I'm wondering, what's burning? Happened again when I put Fluid Film under the truck.
