Question Shorty Headers???

Does anyone know where I can find a set of shorty headers that are fairly inexpensive?
I picked up my truck from the shop yesterday and found out my driver side manifold has a leak so big I think I can fit a dime into it! The funny thing is, I'm sure it was not leaking(on the driver side) when I brought it into the shop. Although I did have a very small leak on the passenger side, but it was very minor.
So if my budget allows it, I think it's a great time to put some headers on it! I'm not the good working on these trucks yet, so I think shorties (for me) would be the best way to go.

BTW: If anyone has a used set and willing to sell, contact me.

Thanks,
Lamar

Lamar,

Check L&L - not sure if they make shorties though. Also, check Summit and see what they have.

I bet my leak was bigger...

Good luck finding what fits your definition of "cheap".... didn't find any specific shorties for your application BUT if you really want shorties.....

Sanderson offers three versions of 460 shorty headers: Sanderson Headers for Ford Big Block V8 engine applications.

Doug's Headers has a "Tight Tuck" headers, PN D629 for the 460. Google it.

JBA has shorties for EFI 460s. Dunno what the diff would be for your rig but it's worth a shot: JBA Shorty Headers - 88-96 FORD TRUCK 460 EFI [1629SJT] - $683.68 : Moe’s Performance, offering Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep Performance Auto Parts, HEMI Performance Parts

iirc the efi 460's had diff exhaust ports... different shape and I think different bolt pattern. Could be wrong. Since you are 2wd you should have a variety of choices for headers. summit racing, search 78 F250 + 460 for headers, it brings up 2 pages of results with several around $195, which is about as cheap as they get.

Thanks guys for all of the resources! I'm searching through them now.
As far as full length headers go, I read somewhere on here that the engine would need to be jacked up a little to get them in. Is that correct??? That's my main reason for wanting to go with shorties. I've never taken an engine out or jacked one up!
Well, hopefully I'll find a set within a day or two! I've been soaking the manifold bolts with PB, and will continue soaking them for at least 2 more days.
hasteranger-Those from Summit for $195 might be the one I go with.

Thanks,
Lamar

Them are long tube Flowtech PN 12564FLT for $195.

Look up Hedman PN 86207 at Summit. Shorties but the application is for 75-86 Econolines with a 460. 'might work. Pricey though... <GULP>.. $550.

Here's L&L's shorty headers..

L&L Products

good site - they provide pics of 'em installed from multiple angles. Over $530....Spec'd for a 4WD though.. here are some mock-ups from an FSB thread:

what will be involved to install any set of headers will depend on the exact set of headers and your exact truck. My guess, though, is that most of the standard length headers (not the long tube) could be installed with the engine in place and the fenders removed.

Fenders, I can do! So, "standard length = "full length" in the part descriptions?

Yeah I think so. Usually there are shorties that go down to the engine mount area and just drop in, the standard ones some you can snake in, some require you to pull the starter, etc... and the long tubes a lot of them go around the engine mount on some cars... dont think thats the case on the ford trucks, but they are so long they can be hard to snake in.

The good thing if you order them from summit is that if you find you can't install them and you haven't scratched them up you can just send em back for a refund.

Ok, I got it. Summit list them as "full length", but they're listed as "standard" on all of the other sites.
So, the two I'm looking at are:

Flowtech 12564FLT
Flowtech 12564FLT - Flowtech Headers - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Hedman Hedders 89140
Hedman Hedders 89140 - Hedman Street Hedders - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Thanks hasteranger! That helps me out a bunch. Once this is done my truck will pass inspection and I can finally put it on the road again!

Ok, I ordered Hedman Hedders 89140 this morning. They should be here Wednesday.
I've been soaking the manifold bolts with PB at least twice a day and will continue to do so this week.
Now I'm looking for a shop to install them! I called a muffler shop this morning that comes recommended to get an estimate and before I could tell him the year and make of my truck, he said "No thank you! I do not want that job".
Looks like I may have to tackle this job myself.

Its not a job that requires special skills, though getting those exhaust bolts off can be difficult and sometimes it helps to have stuff like a torch and flex sockets and etc.

Yeah breaking a bolt is what I'm afraid of. Hopefully I'll be one of the lucky ones, and not have one break on me.

have fun with the hedmans. now take it i have a 4wd with a 400m heres how crappy they fit

they were hanging super low. and my truck is 4wd. not sure how they will fit for a 2wd and a 460 but with the way mine fit i would NEVER buy hedman headers again. I cut these and made them shorter to fit.
