Hey Chris, do y'all pull with the wifes truck? Maybe some for her for Christmas and you could see what you thought backing hers up to the trailer. Of course if you use hers for pulling too, nevermind.
I'm with you, I can't get super bright reverse lights and try to back up to a trailer. I was thinking of getting the recon reverse lights and then put a set of backup lights on a switch so I can turn them on and off when I need them. If I didn't pull a trailer these would be great.
I'd love to have lights that could be operated off a switch. Would be expecially helpful when hooking up dealing with a trailer.

Anyone have anything they are happy with?
I have these mounted in my bumper to the left and right of my receiver hitch and hooked up to a switch on my dash. They are just the type that go into a headach rack but they are plenty bright for hooking up trailers or locking gates after you pull through at night.
I put a set of lights on from backup buddy that have switch on them. You can see them at Back-Up Buddy - Hitch mount backup truck lights - Vehicle utility lights I went with GG307LED at 720 lumen. I used the new 7 pin in place of mine and moved the old one up under the truck because I do not like wires hanging down anyplace. I can send a pic of mine if you would like. So far they have worked out very well and three of my friends are ordering them. Some people wire them to a switch in the cab; however, mine are run through the 7 pin so they come on when the truck is put in reverse. They also have a switch at the 7 pin so you can just turn them on if you are doing work at night behind the truck without the need for putting the truck in reverse. Now that I see these additional LED light replacements from Retro Solutions, I may just add these as well to make it nice and bright back there.

She's got smoked recon LED tail lights so these aren't an option for her. The LED's she has are bright, but don't project like these bulbs do. Hers has a square plate with a bunch of little LED lights on it so there's no place to plug a bulb in. Same thing for her 3rd brake light, it's a sealed unit with LED's inside.

I've got some little 55w ones that I have mounted below my tail lights and above my bumper that do a pretty good job. One of the housings has a crack in it right now, and I really like these CREE LED bulbs. Having both would be nice, but not if I can't back a trailer. I'm on the fence about the new ones.
55 Watt Platnium burners here from Wally world but I'm sure Clay could set you up with something nice for some aftermarkets from Recon. I needed something fast that year (2009) for towing my trailer to RRE or I would have purchased from Clay. Nice back up light leds though, could add them for even more light. Here's a pic of mine, all controled from inside. Don't mind the date, it was wrong obviously.
Thanks Bill, I've enjoyed them so far.
That's a bummer Joe, I've had no problems thus far. One thing I do not like is if you leave them on for awhile for whatever reason, they start "timing out" to keep from over heating. I was working behind the truck and using the reverse lights for light last weekend and after about 10-15 minutes they started individually cutting out. Was a convenient source of light up to that point. I contacted them and they replied that it was normal.
know this is a old post but I used this thread to help buy a set of 5 watt Cree reverse lights, then came across these and figured I would try these out and they’re absolutely no comparison! If anyone’s ever wondered what it would be like to have headlights in the back of their truck check these out lol.
