How to ship a C6?
Thanks for your help.
I recently went through the rigamorall of having a complete (600#) 300cid shipped from the East Coast to the West Coast. Initially, I thought it would be more cost effective to have it shipped via ground by a truck shipper (Yellow, JB, etc.); But with fuel prices the way they are nowadays, it would have cost more to ship the darned thing than the initial purchase of the engine ($750.00).
So, being desperate, I began contacting air shippers thinking that a plane ticket might cost less than they wanted for ground shipping. Luckily, I found an outfit called "Kitty Hawk Air Freight" who did it for about $200 for their 3-day Economy shipping.
The only thing you need to be worried about is palleting the trans properly and, most importantly, ensuring that there is absolutely no Haz-Mat stuff in the trans. You will need to drain and purge the trans, before they will take the shipment. Also you will have to sign documents saying that the shipment is totally free of Haz-Mat. If you are reasonably close to an airport where Kitty Hawk services, give them a call. They saved my bacon, and since a trans is lighter than a complete engine, it will be much cheaper too.

I did check Averitt, but they don't take uncrated machinery, and estimated that it would cost $150-175 to ship the tranny after I crated it. I was hoping that Averitt would take it on a pallet, but they won't. The cost was too high, too. UPS was only $105 if I crated it myself.
