Hi Guys,
Been on here for some time and just wondering what you guys recommend for maintenance outside of the norms? I change oil and fuel filters religiously, air filter every 50,000km (or sooner if needed) and swap tranny fluid every 50,000km as well. Also serviced the tranny and had the filter changed at 100,000km. When I read my owners manual it says to change this and change that but is it all necessary? The truck has been running flawless and I'd hate to start replacing parts that have been working so good. Truck has 120,000km's on it now and has been tuned for 113,000 of that. Never makes oil and still makes me smile every time I drive it. As always your advice and opinions are appreciated. Thanks
Sorry Senix I forgot to mention that I had front and rear diffs and transfer case drained and changed at 100,000km. I just want to make sure there is nothing small that I am missing that can lead to a big problem but I think as long as I stick to regular maintenance I should be ok? Hopefully, haha
Yes I will definately re-grease the hubs before it gets too cold here. I will prob also change the coolant and belt while I'm at it and thanks for the advice. I was debating them but it is cheap piece of mind to do them in my shop at home instead of on the side of the road somewhere. Thanks Again
Speaking Of Maintenance... Has anyone had problems with front Axel's going bad? Mine is a 2008 with 188000 miles. I had my head in the wheel well checking some other stuff out and I noticed the seals poped out of the axel behind the 4x4 axel u-joint. I grabbed the shaft and it was loose. Both sides, and both ends of the axel. The end that goes into the hub, and the side that goes into the axel itself... If anyone has seen this, do you know if its possible to rebuild the axel, or is it more economical to replace the whole thing?

Some of that play maybe because of where you grabbed ahold of it.
Raise the tire off the ground and then see how much play you have in the hub. Go from there.
For the dust seals they have new ones out now that are much improved. That issue is not so urgent of a fix.
If the hubs are in fact bad then a new hub is required since it is a complete unit now.
Another way to keep an eye on the hubs is to listen to them after a hwy run or put you finger on the hub and compare to the other side. Extremely hot could also be an indicator...be careful! You could burn yourself..
Thanx Scott, My hubs are good that was the first thing i did check when I found the original problem, I will do the temp check the next time I drive it... Mark
