Complete Fluid Change
Well, with spring break coming up in a week, I plan on going home and changing the oil, oil filter, front and rear end fluids, transfer case fluid, clean the air filter, and change the PCV and Fuel filter. I have also just had the antifreeze changed. Anyhow, just wondering how hard it is to change the fuel filter and do I need any special tools? Also, any good filter brands? Should I go to the dealer or is Autozone ok to use? Also, what brand of fluids should I use in my rear ends and transfer case? Is it wise to buy a Chilton's manual for this truck? Are they helpful? For all my other cars, I have found them extremely useful.
What a way to spend spring break...under the hood of a SUPER DUTY.
God Bless,
Nate
If you have an auto and want to do that, too, read this:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...nsmission.html
They may sell two different sizes in one bag, or a complete set of 8-10 different sizes.
Look around for a Motorcraft filter (even though I don't use Motorcraft for anything but plugs).
I recently changed out my front and rear diffs and transfer case using synthetics.
I'll tell you one thing, my rear end (no pun intended), after putting Amsoil in it, doesn't whine anymore when in 4x4 on the highway (in snow or rain). And, it used to whine ever so slightly on (slight) deceleration on the highway once in a while, it doesn't do that anymore. And the Ford stuff is synthetic to begin with.
Use Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, whatever you can find (and afford). I think I spent over $100 in fluids changing out to synthetic everywhere.
Still haven't done the tranny
Im not doing the auto tranny b/c it was just done 20,000 miles ago so its good for about 16,000. Everything else is in need of changing. I'm looking forward to being able to wrench on it a little bit over break. Thanks again.
Nate
