Well after 4 years of owning a 7.3 I finally installed a dp tuner and WOW. I have stock , 60 tow and 80 econ. it is great i only have one question so far if others are experience this. When driving at slow speed and very littl e throttle the motor sounds like it is knocking like a gas motor. i switch it to stock and the noise goes away, any idea what the noise could be? ps the transmission feels so much better.
thanks guys i knew i would get some feed back. just work as a mini tech and i am worried about a tuner on my truck. that is why i waited so long. i might talk to dp in a couple weeks in pa if i can get off work.
I had to go pick someone up so I tried out the different tunes. I think my tuner is fine.. When I was thinking about it earlier I was recalling the noise at idle, they are the same. But I tried it while driving; big difference. Disaster averted
The tuning is basically timing, with the Econ and please someone correct me if I'm wrong the timing is slightly advanced to take advantage of the maximum safe chamber pressure to inject the fuel, if you have more pressure at injection you need less fuel to make the same ,or more, power ^so what you hearvis the injector working harder to make more pressure at time of injection as well as noted the "explosion" of the fuelcauseing the knock witch is not a problem in diesel engines it's what makes the compression ignition work, I hope this makes sense
Jim & fat hopped up on Nyquil Monty
I was thinking more like the split shoot injection was increased a little which increases the sound & and therefore power. But its normal and haven't heard any problems.
