4 Speed Spur?

Thank you for helping out with my earlier questions. Are there any special maintenance problems or advantages with 4 speed spur transmissions? If so, I would like to hear you guys' thoughts on them.

All I know is they are a non synchronized tranny, and you have to double clutch them to shift. Apparently a fading form of art! I guess it takes some getting used to! I am sure others will jump in and let you read their opinions.

I can't think of any advantages or special maintenance procedures. I just keep mine filled with oil and it's good to go. The double clutching is fun, it kind of makes me feel unique because as Jeff said, it's kind of a dieing art. It's not too hard once you figure it out. Downshifting it the most difficult part though.

Could you consider it an anti theft device? Maybe a discount on the insurance

Jeff,

That is the one benefit I see in it. I've said it many times. It can be very intertaining watching some one try to operate it for the first time. Lots of rabbit starts and choking of the engine.
