I have a 08 6.4 power stroke and when its loaded pulling a hill it will set a P0087 low rail pressure code and then it derates the power until the code clears of you turn it off for a few minutes it's only does it loaded so any help would be great Thanks Dave It has 124000 on it

Look for your HPFP as an issue. Check and change your fuel filters. Ensure all is clean. Shine a light in the fuel bowl and check for rust or metal contamination.

Might want to check your extended warranty.

Keep reciepts for your maintance.

the filters are new and they get changed on a regular maintence schedule and all looks clean i was thinking of the hpfp and there is a tsb for a code P0088 to replace the pump cause it all test good. i am looking at the cat and the DPF cause it is going into regen alot i test drove it 20 miles and came back to shop and checked the recored data the desired backpressue was about 30 psi lower than the actual filled it up with fuel and on the next test drive it regened again so im thinking that the exhaust might be the problem, and taking the exaust parts out to test drive will set a code i believe?

Yes if the parts are missing with out tuning the truck to shut off the regen it will cause problems.

if rail pressure is low and your going in to regens alot odds are its a result of the extra soot load from the p0087 vs an issue with the pipes reaking havoc with the fuel system.
think about it

The OP had another thread in the SD forum about the same issue that was moved down here. I removed it, as there were no useful replies there and it would have just been confusing!

Secondly, is the truck completely stock right now?

were you able to get your trucks problem fixed? I'm currently having the same issue as well with my truck. Can seem to find any kind of solid info on it on what's really going on. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

The fix will be a new HPFP. The VCV that is attached to the HPFP is bad.
