I have a 2003 7.3 that on my way to work today drove fine for 20 miles then in a 30MPH the check engine light came on and when I went to accelerate at the 55 MPH it had little power. Almost to work I pulled in put it in park and it idles ok, and seems ok when I push it down. Boost is good and no smoke. I bought the truck 3 weeks ago and I was going to change the fuel filter, but I have not gotten to it yet. My question is would the filter cause it to act up all the sudden? I put fuel in it yesterday on my way to work but i have gone 60 miles on the tank with no issue til now. Should I change it out and go from there or any other ideas?
Is it just low on power? Stuttering or skipping at all? You really need to try to get the code read. Where are you located, maybe someone is nearby and can help you out. We will definitely get you going. Don't pay someone a lot of money to fix this. We live for this stuff around here. Just try to answer our questions to the best of your ability. Is there any other information you can give other than just that it had little power? How many miles are on the truck? Any performance mods at all?

I bought the truck 3 weeks ago from a private guy. He was pretty "honest" and up front so I think its just timing.
It has an edge programer and exhuast. I have only taken the programer off the millage setting a few times and was just on my way to work when it started this
I change the fuel filter just now on my lunch break and there was no change.
It shutters some, it drives but rough and takes a while to get to spead. It acts alot like a fuel pump is bad in a gas truck.
If you give it fuel it levels out but just has no power to get up to speed.
I have a local garge with a scanner who he will scan it for me tonight.
May have a fuel restiction between the tank and fuel pump. Being able to rev in neutral requires very little fuel so don't let that fool you. You need to check fuel pressure while driving and going WOT (Wide Open Throttle).
Most common cause of fuel restriction is clogged filter screens in the mixing chamber in the fuel tank. See this Guzzle's In-Tank Modification. There is also a screen at the inlet of the fuel pump that can clog.
Edit: Didn't see your last post before posting. Shuddering could be a UVCH (Under Valve Cover Harness) connection problem.

Your Edge programmer might be able to pull some codes. Have you tried that yet?
With the info provided so far, it sounds like you have an issue with the Under Valve Cover Harness. Most times they come unplugged and they just need to be plugged back in. A quarter that is ground down a little bit will keep that from happening again.
Other times it's actual damage to the wires or connectors in the harnesses themselves. Not too common but does happen.
If your Edge can pull codes, and that code is P1316, then check for a loose connection under the valve covers. It's the most common item so we normally ask people to check that first. Plus it's good insurance to add the quarters anyway...

When you changed the fuel filter, did you drain the bowl first? If so, were you able to measure how much fuel came out? If not, was the bowl completely full of fuel when you opened the lid?
Oh also, be advised that not all code-readers work on our trucks. Most off-the-shelf scanners will pull SOME codes, but not all. You need a Ford specific code-reader to do it correctly. You may just want to ask your buddy what kind of reader he has before you or he to go too much trouble. Good luck!

No I did not drain the bowl. I did not have alot of time because I did it on my break at work. The fuel in the bowl seemed full and clean.

Good point. Same holds true for handheld power programmers (Bully Dog, Superchips etc). They can pull some codes but not enough to really help all that much. However, in this case P1316 is one of the general codes that most readers can retrieve and that would normally cause us to check the UVCH connectors.
A bad CPS usually stalls the engine and then fires right back up again until eventually it won't restart at all.

I can not pull codes. It is a Attitude / Juice and wont do it.
I tried using the digital millage screen, but i was not sure what to look for and I was not sure how relalable that would be.
