Just picked up a 2011 6.7 PS SD. It only has about 700 miles on it... What is the recommended mileage before the first towing of a 10,000 pound travel trailer?
I don't recall what the books says exactly but I know it was 600 miles for my 06. Usually anything over 500 miles should be good. The main concern of waiting a few hundred miles is to give the rear gears time to mesh and not cause overheating of the rear. With the synthetic gear oil and finned aluminum cover these days, I don't even know how much validity that holds anymore.
I wouldn't be concerned at all about towing a travel trailer at 700 miles.

That's about where I'll be too when I pull my 5er for the first time with my new truck. If I recall, the book say 500 miles before towing and 1000 miles before heavy pulling. It doesn't say what's heavy pulling weight.
Just kiddin', glad the new truck is working out better, hopefully the old one was put out to pasture!
Thanks, man. The new one is just awesome... everything about it. Cruised by the dealership over the weekend because they swapped the tailgates on the trade with the new one (the new one didnt have the step in it), so the key didn't work... had to have a key made for the old gate. So I guess I have a key now for the old truck.
Yikes!! Did they figure out what was wrong with it or did they just want to find someone that wasn't as knowledgeable and would accept it?
I replied to your thread in the SD forum but since you mentioned it's still for sale, you should see if they'll switch out the storage bin locks (or the tailgate lock if you want 1 key for everything). It's worth a shot!

Which is, by the way, for sale on the lot.
Why didn't they/you just switch the locks on the tailgates?

Nobody thought about it until I went to lock it this weekend and couldn't. I really don't mind the separate key... I go into the city often and have to use the parking garages, so the extra deterrant is appreciated... which is why I'm asking in my other thread about rekeying the interior storage to the same key as the gate.
