ok guys this may sound stupid but my stepdad said that if i make my truck straight pipes that i might not have enough pressure on the motor which would eventually screw with my motor he said that i would need some swedges and pipe to make it straight so whats yalls take
Not true, a diesel gets more power from more air In and Out. A "straight pipe" is pretty much no muffler. Simply find out what size exhaust you have and get a piece of pipe that will connect the two pieces of exhaust, then clamp it shut. There are COUNTLESS members on this forum who have their trucks straight piped with no ill-affects, except volume, and more power (nothing drastic). It's on my to-do list.
I had mine str8t piped but it was way to loud for me what does a cherry bomb sound like an a IDI? I would like to do this so it baffles the noise just a hair lol ? Thoughts? Its str8t thur pass...
I was thinking about replacing the 27 year old muffler on my IDI with a cherry bomb too... I wish I could hear it to know whether it was reasonable or not.
I don't mind a little loud, but I don't want to have to shout to my passengers or shake my neighbor's houses or anything...
If you have a turbo it won't be that loud. The turbo chops up a lot of that noise and you get more of a low roar without the "popping". You'll also be able to hear the turbo whistle better if you open the exhaust up.
My truck is N/A and I just welded in a 2.5-3 adapter at the downpipe, a cheapo Thrush 3" welded muffler, and used a little over 3 feet of 3" pipe and a 45 degree adapter exiting in front of the rear tire. Still decently quiet at idle, makes some good noise when I open it up, and I could feel the difference in power immediately vs the stock setup.
Back-pressure is something only gassers need. I have a straight pipe that exits before the rear wheel and it works just fine for me. It's only the stock 2.5" pipe size but it sounds pretty mean. If I open it up, it will just about blow a Prius off the road. I don't plan on installing a muffler on this truck unless I need it for inspection and that will be a one-day occurrence.
I have 2.5in diameter, 24 inch long glasspack with a 4.5 inch tip before my right rear tire on my 84 F250...sounds pretty freakin awesome...and shes quite loud when u get on her. Ill try and get a sound vid up asap.
