03 Ranger Dies when out of the gas???
Ok guys first off I have a 03 Ranger Edge 4.0L 4x4 5 speed 175,000 miles TODAY. Newish O2 senors, and newish fuel pump. Other then maintenace parts never any problems ever.
So here is what happened, drove out to deer hunt and all was well, but not on the way back. I cranked it up and it died, cranked up and died, then cranked it with about 1/4 throttle and it would stay on. Then I pull up to the end of the driveway and it dies, I cranked it up and pulled out on the road. It will stay running (rough and bucky) if I stay in the gas, but if I go full throttle it will die as well. Every time I get out of the gas to change gears or to slow down it dies. When in gear and moving everything would stay on but the engine would die. I made it home, running every stop sign there was and when I pull in at home, it would idle just barely enough to keep it on. Need some info and some ideas, Im at a loss here. There was no check engine light or and thing un normal as far as the gages go, and Im half way through a tank of gas so I dont think its bad gas.
What do you guys think??
Thanks Robby

Clean the MAF sensor and check the air filter. You can the MAF sensor without removing it from the housing. The link is just for general info. Might also want to swing by Advance or Auto Zone to have the computer scanned for check engine light codes.

*also if you have not done the following I would consider doing them
-plugs and wires(motorcraft or autolite only)
-drain and fill tranny and transfer case
-flush the power steering system
-do at least a turkey baster method on the Brake system

I will pick at it here and there. Last year I did the fuel pump, water pump, alternator, thermostat housing and sensors, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, belt, radiator flush, plugs and wires (motorcraft), O2 senors.
Plans this fall were to flush the power steering, and drain and replace the tranny and transfer and give everything a once over while under there.
As far as codes go, it never threw a light. Will there be codes with no light???
Thanks again for the help guys
