'05 PSD brakes dragging

I didn't release my emer. brake fully and drove maybe 100 feet and noticed the dash light was on and immediately released the brake. I drove another 15 miles and noticed a smell like hot brakes. Sure enough when I ckd the brakes the lt front and rt rear were abnormally hot-felt the rims. I tried a number of time to engage/release the emerg. brake thinking that it wasn't releasing all the way. It didn't make sense because the emer. brake only works the rear wheels.
I managed to get it home and chk the emer. brakes-cable seemed to be free on release. I also ckd the mechanism at the wheels and both released to the same position.
I planned a trip for the w/e and decided not to use the truck. After the brakes cooled down the brakes released completely but was still paranoid about taking it on a trip. I made an appointment to take it to the dealer when I get back.
The only thing I can think of is the ABS module - this is designed to modulate the brakes during wheel lockup.

I have had 3 sets of calipers replaced because they keep freezing up. It cant be the calipers i keep telling them, its got to be something else. Could be the abs also.

Did you check to make sure your caliper slide pins weren't binding up? That's common on these trucks.

I agree on the calliper pin. My front passenger seemed to be welded in place when I was doing a brake job. Needed to use a torch to heat up the calliper bracket to get it out.

They have a rubber bushing on one of the slide pins, and once it gets dried out from lack of grease on it, they are a PITA to get out!! Best advice is just replace all four of them and be done with it for another 100k miles.

I have had the same problem with dragging brakes on my '06. Caliper pins and/or calipers were the cause of the problem.

Periodic maintenance by lubricating the caliper pins is needed if one drives a truck where the roads are covered with the new 'special' salt solution that is getting to be popular. That stuff seems to be designed to destroy brake components.

Master cylinder can cause that problem too if all 4 brakes are dragging. If its not overfull, then the check valve inside it may be the culprit. It will have to be replaced or rebuilt if that is the case.

I had the same problem lt ft and rt rr dragging. I stopped the truck letting the brakes cool and wa-la they were free. Last yr the lt rr dragged, cooled down and it freed up. I don't know what the answer - some people blame the composite caliper pistons, pins seizing, anti-lock module and master cylinder. Mine started at around 55,000. I've changer pins on the rt ft because of excessive brake dust but the dusting continues. The truck has 82,000 now and I drive it with great antipathy waiting for the next drag issue.
