When I got my truck it had a short band of metal attached to the engine (6 cylinder - 226) where the right front engine mount attaches to the engine. Its about 1/2" wide and about 3 1/2" long, although the end looks like it was broken off.
I'm assuming it's just something added by the P.O. that doesn't belong there but before I throw it away I thought I better check and see if it's actually something that belongs there. Does anyone think it's something that was put there by Ford?
Dan, my '50/226 does not have that piece installed, but mine is missing the heat shield (baffle) that was over the exhaust manifold. If you look at the shop manual, Fig. 6 Pg. 41, you will see the baffle p/n 9437. That looks like the lower attachment point for this unit.
I have a very close to original truck, 1948 f1, 226 and I do not remember seeing that. I've not had the sheetmetal off so haven't really really looked there. I have looked for the frame serial, and I have replace the fuel lines... all in that area. If you want I will double check next time I am out (this Sat - I only get to the shop on weekends).

I read the last post (from mblayton) before I saw the responses from you and Ross. Looks like you guys figured it out. Thanks. I've never seen an engine with that baffle installed.
