Most everything under the hood is water proof. Just be careful around the air intake/Throttle body. Don't use a high pressure hose either, just a regular garden hose otherwise you'll risk damaging something.

gotcha, don't have high pressure anyway so kinda stuck w/ a couple regular garden hoses linked lol - just wanted to make sure since i seem to have a buttload of wires all over the place under the hood including a couple that aren't connected to anything

Well if you have bare wires that someone added in the yeah you better cover them. Just to be safe.

yep i do, i'm guessing that some of them go to the spotlights, police scanner, and floods that used to be mounted on the front bumper but haven't gotten around to tracing those wires yet

I'd bet those valve covers are the majority of your oil leak.. seems like they're always the first to leak (and the hardest to stop in my case, grr). Don't jump in like I do and blame your rear main right off the bat, almost all oil leaks end up dripping down to the rear of the engine making you think its the rear main.

I disagree about the 8.8 not being able to handle 35s.. Jeep guys and Toyota guys swap these into their offroad toys that run 44s rock crawling, and the 351w? cmon, it cant move 35s with 3.55 gearing?

I often get WHOOPED offroad by people in Toyotas with sub 3L motors or Jeeps with 4L motors running 44+ tires in axles smaller than mine, fully locked. Even the guys running 5+ gears in those Toyotas and Jeeps still dont put as much torque down to the ground as I would with 35s and 3.55s.

Your right ErrorS, you can run larger tires, but likely those jeep and toyota guys aren't running stock axles. The 351 will handle the weight of tires fine, its the other parts you need to worry about (brakes, u-joints, transmission).

I agree about the valve covers leaking. I need to really clean my engine as well and get rid of my leaks. Need to get some really nifty valve cover gaskets.

Personally, i prefer to aim at reliability, so my suggestions are just a little on the safe side. Here in Venezuela, most of the Toyota classic trucks models (FJ-70, FJ-80) run Dana 60 axles and 4.10 gearing as STOCK equipment. So it's no wonder they beat your a$$ on the trails.

of course they arent running stock axles , they *upgrade* to Ford 8.8s, 9''s and Dana60s.

and seriously, D60 versus a Ford 8.8? It's not exactly night and day strength difference man.. and then 4.10s vs. 3.55s, again, not exactly a major difference.
Anyways I'm not talking about old FJs, we don't really have them here, here it's the 4runners and Toyota trucks.

I will agree, our Bronco driveshafts are weak points. The double cardon just doesn't hold up to real abuse

That's up to you. I plan on upgrading to at least 33's. I have the 265's on now.
