hey guys, installing my FRx kit, it has 3 springs, silver=58-61 psi, gold=62-65, or black=67-70.. witch one should i use?? my truck is pretty much stock other than the usual goodies..
I used the gold one & I really can't give you a good reason why. I do know that I hooked up a mech gauge after installing it & I've got 63psi, so the springs must produce the advertised pressures.
I believe I read somewhere that most folks use the gold one so that might have been what made me use it. I don't believe you could go wrong with any of the 3 but that's just my opinion.
not to mention, they're 15 buks a shot ,but like what franko gots goin on, the "gold" should read 62-65-ish correct, but yet, he's banging at 75psi?
I need a low/mid spring to install onto the fuel bowl, so when i switch pumps to run wvo, the veggie pump can overcome the pressure of the D2 pump psi, but yet have my truck still perform correctly if/when i switch back to D2.
My ? should be, what is the stock fuel psi with no FRx.
Gold one here. I haven't hooked up a gauge but need to so which port is the best to monitor fuel pressure? Before or after to see 62 - 65 psi?
I would say post filter port (lower on bowl) is better, since it will be the pressure the fuel rails will be seeing. If filter is new, you won't really see a difference.

Ford & Navistar advertise 62psi as required for the 7.3, that's the perfect world brand spanking new out of the box dyno day for EPA setting, you can go +or- 5psi and be well within correct performance envelope.

I rebuilt my fuel bowl today, and upon reassembly I lost the gold spring...
So I put the black one in. Now I have 76 at idle.
I did find the gold after I hosed the valley out.
If its too high, I'll switch back to gold.

Thanks Jim, and Monty..
Franko, i got the first gen FRx, and for 5 months it would stay a consistant 69/70psi, all day long, however then, the last couple months, it krept to 75/76psi, and thats when the #8 knock/tap sound was intense. At one point, after towing my trailer (8k at the time), rolled into driveway and sounded as if i had someone under the truck with a ball ping hammer, banging away...i since then, removed the fpr assy, wet-sanded the plunger, clipped 1-coil off the stock spring, and walah, back to 69/70psi, and run'n the FRx. Gonna this week though, remove it and instasll the stock FPR, and we'll see then.
