2000 5.4 Engine not running

Good afternoon forum,

After much helpful posts here and on the other forums I have tried to narrow down why my engine wont stay on without keeping the accelerator pedal some what pressed down.

The issue was isoleted to a total of two times prior to this, it started a few months ago where after sitting for two days the engine would turn on, and stall a few seconds later. With some gas pedal action it stayed running and there were no issues for a few weeks.

This weekend I left the work truck unused for four days. Apon trying to start it the same issue repeated itself where the engine wouldnt run.

I cleaned the IAC, changed the fuel filter, listened for the fuel pump to prime, and still stuck with no answer after a day of trying to figure it out.

The truck only stays running if fed gas through the gas pedal. NO CEL LIGHTS are present.
I noticed what would seem like water in the tail pipe and on the ground after forcing the truck to run for a few minutes. It was dark like oil, however doesnt smell like oil. Oil level is up to proper levels.
The truck is a 2000 Ford E250 5.4 liter.... Any help is appreciated.

it could still be the IAC...have you checked for vacuum leaks??

It maybe the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Are you loosing coolant? some condensation out the tailpipe is normal.

What else has been done to correct this?

I would still put money on the IAC needing replaced even though you said you cleaned it before.

Your clearly indicating that by using foot throttle control to keep the motor running, your substituting air intake for air the IAC is supposed to be open to provide a bypass around the same throttle plate you have opened.
You did not clean is good enough or it is still malfunctioning in some way.
Good luck.

Good afternoon,
After reading the posts I purchased a new IAC and the truck started up on the first try.

I will be posting a detailed How-To on changing the IAC.

Thanks guys for the help.

Good to hear your repaired.
The IAC is very important to starting in both cold and hot starts and in decelleration and tight idle control at all times.
Now the computer needs to relearn the normal operation.
I would remove the battery positive for about 5 min. so the computer reverts back [reboots] to it's basic tables and rebuilds them.
For faster cold starts and hot idle, after this is done; let the motor go cold before restarting.
Then put lights on, hi fan position, headlites and start the engine.
Let the motor run until fully warmed while it recharges the battery and supples a higher load, to learn from, simulating cold temps.
Then take a 5 mile drive. Do several hot normal restarts so the battery charge and headlites are the normal load.
From this point on, all your starts should be perfect if there are no other issues.
Good luck.
