The last thread we had running on a get together just didn't seem to get any interest. But if you guys are interested, I'm up for some camping.

Afternoon gentlemen. Had some very think frog here in Misery this morning on the train. At times it was well less than a 1/4 mile visibility. Very strange feeling rolling through that crap on the train like it's just another day a the office. At least the trees are starting their annual change of colors, in another week or so it should be beautiful along the mainline.

I'm just as guilty as the next guy. As much as I'd like to go camping...working out of the camper for the last 3 years has just about pushed me to the point of setting fire to this thing. I'd do it in a heartbeat if that's what it took to find work near home.

I about messed up last night. GOt to work & realized the coke machine was out of Mtn. Dew. Drove down the street & back to the shop. Then this morning I realized the fuel pump was still on. Started up just fine. I really need to set up a relay with a hot wire in start/run to keep from doing it again.

Spent 7 hours under a trailer last night.. cussed it up one side & down another. Go to fix something then find something else.

Well I guess I need to stop in here more often. Been busy doing a bunch of stuff, but not much of what I want to do. I finally got some work on my 3 swapmers I had to send back, I'm getting my refund to order 3 more. I have to call today about it as a matter of fact. Mater is still sitting in the garage ready for paint. Seems that every time I find someone willing to help it never happens. The wife keeps complaining about the truck in there but what can I do. I have everything to do it, just need the area to do it in. I really want to get it done before the winter kicks in but we will see.

Anyone get any of the rain last night? Looked like it was scattered at best, but maybe someone got some of it. I really need to wax the truck...that will cause a monsoon.

I quit drinking that stuff almost 18 years ago...causes birth defects & will stunt your growth. Now coffee, the life blood of America if you ask me. Got to work one night only to realize the thermos full of coffee was sitting on the table in the camper. At least when I got back to it 12 some-odd hours later it was still pretty warm. It was a rough night at work that night.

Fuel pump on all night? How did you still have a battery to fire it up. I'm assuming this is on your 6.9IDI?

That's a negitive ghost rider. I've got one of those too, last used it a couple of years ago on a cub scout camping trip at Queen Wilamena state park. Everything was great until the rain with hurricane force winds showed up about 0300 in the morning and "the door" started to leak water into the tent. Yea Haw!

I don't see why you just don't go ahead and paint it in your front yard. Leave the wife's Exp in the garage of course (unless you want to repaint it too). I've got a high-volume, low pressure 2 Qt gun you can borrow...just need an air compressor & air dryer. What's the worse that could happen?

Just do it in the garage, lay plastic and sheets on everything and crack the garage door and put a couple box fans flowing outward.

Ya, between 8.5 & 9 hours of running the fuel pump without the motor running. I know there was no air in the fuel lines by then. I should have got out & looked around to see if I had any fuel leaks but oh well.

The battery(s) seems fine. Not 100% like they have been but probably 90-95%.

James must have scared everyone away talking about he & the dog stinking it up in Johnson county. Sure been quite in here for a couple of days. Looking at the latest from the weather guessers....Nevada, MO is supposed to drop to 28F in the morning. Maybe I should plug the Princess in over night.

Do the fuel systems on the 6.9 loop back to the tank or does it deadhead somewhere on the motor? Assuming it loops, your fuel should be really clean now And if the truck fired up after all that pumping, I'd say your batteries are still good.

It loops around & goes back to the tank. Batts are good now that I fixed a loose connection on the field wire on the alternator.

Right now its on stands cause I plan to drain the transmission & fix the PTO leaks. Shifting has been getting hard & I figure its because the cooler weather & the leak. Plus I think I found my oil leak. The fittings for the oil pressure gauge is nearly washed clean. Cant decide if I want to put copper line in it, get a new one cause I dont have an extra light bulb, get a fancy new one (electric & mechanical).

I realize what's in your F350 is no where near what was in my old '92 Explorer; but here goes anyway. Are you sure it's the right weight oil? I had to have it's bearings replaced (long story) and when the tranny shop put it back together, they used 90w gear oil. The '92 Explorers that had the "gear grinder" option used Mercon...not 30w let alone 90w. To say it was harsh shifting it cold would be an understatement. I'm not sure how long Ford has been using Mercon in the gear grinders...maybe it's a Mazada thing since that who builds the trannys for the Rangers & Explorers that have 5-speeds.

Being a T19 & its more or less in the same family as the T18 & NP435, plus mid 80s, Im going to say its gear weight. Just not sure on the weight right now.

Sitting here waiting on the phone to ring (I work on-call) I did alittle google-ing around and came up with this for the T19...

3.5 Qts of Ford p/n D-8-D-Z-19C547-A (extreme pressure 80w gear oil).

Apparently a 80w90 will work fine, though I did see this as well...

"When refilling your T18 or T19 with gear oil, choose a GL-4 rated oil instead of GL-5. The latter has a higher sulfur content that is mildly corrosive to the bronze alloy synchros of the this and many other transmissions that do not have composite synchronizes. StaLube and RedLine are brands to look for, among others.

We recommend that you select a conventional lubricant or a para-synthetic in lieu of the full synthetics.
"

In another hobby of mine, I've see the whole GL-4/GL-5 debate and how GL-5 is harsh on older gearboxes...especially NP gear grinders.
