It checks abs codes, and tests abs valves too

I was able to extract a P1316 code from the truck. As predicted the code reader pulled up nothing on generic but it offered up that as a Ford specific. Any more thoughts?? Thanks in advance.

A 1316 means that the IDM(Injector Drive Module) has stored codes, usually a KOEO test will display the actual codes that would have pertained to the P1316 in a memory code test. Most of the time attributed to a loose UVCH.

1316 is almost always linked to the UVCH. If you have capability to run a buzz test, you can tell which side. More than likely you may have a UVCH connector under the valve over that is loose. Pretty common failure point. Look into the 50 cent mod.

Went back to my neighbor and ran the KOEO test with his little scan too. Unfortunately it couldn't get more specific than the P1316. I guess I still have to take it in. So much for trying to figure it out.

What type of scanner is it, as Ken mentioned some need the Buzz test performed to point to the codes. That's what the Buzz test does too.

Unfortunately I do not know that Scantool, I was hoping it was a snapon, or something similar that i could get you to the test screens. If it is capable it should be similar though.

I was reading a little into this UVCH and it may be my problem. I suspected a glow plug issue today and all of this could be related. I had a long crank issue this morning. It is cooling off so it was probably 30* this morning. If this connector is loose it could be causing the code and the hard cold start.... If I understand right....

As already mentioned, P1316 is the high level code. Most likely there are more specific codes stored(unless they were cleared during the recent scan). If your neighbors scanner can perform a buzz test that might narrow things down to one bank or even a specific injector.

Usually injectors don't fix themselves so there is a more than reasonable chance that you have a wiring issue. Intermittent SES can sometimes be caused by a burned center pin on the UVCH and/or gasket. That will usually throw a 1316 plus a code for a bank fault. Faulty solenoids can throw IDM, bank and specific injector faults (usually more than one cylinder).

IDM and specific injector codes can be strong clues as well. For instance, a high/low side open on 1,3,7 or 8 can mean the harness clip is coming loose because they usually start at one end and work themselves out over time. Low side codes could mean a chaffed wire somewhere, perhaps at the 42pin connector etc...

Point is, p1316 tells you the system that has issues but nothing more detailed than that (hence the need for enhanced scanner capabilities). In your case, I would take an hour and pull the valve covers and see if a connector is loose. Sure beats paying the dealer $500 to do it. You will need two quarters to finish the job...

Does it seam reasonable that the hard start in the morning and the intermittent SES light are related and further related to the UVCH??

It is as reasonable as .50 cents to fix a known possible issue and gain the knowledge to be comfortable with your engine, once you are comfortable getting to that point, we can all help you if it happens to be a little deeper or pricey issue such as worn injectors, because if you are comfortable getting under the VC's you are there.
