I am putting together my 390 and hit a snag at the pushrods. I am putting on the comp cam rollertip rockers and got a set of ball and cup pushrods but they seem a bit too long. Not a terrible amount. Has anyone ever put a spacer or washer under their pedestals to raise them a bit?? If it is possible, what do you do with the oil hole? Also any suggestions on how to adjust them(lifter bleedout, etc) Thanks all!!!
I am not EXACTLY sure but putting washers under the pedestals is not a good idea because I think it will change the whole geometry of the rocker shaft, and may break things ie valve tips, springs, ect . I think you should buy a push rod measuring tool and buy the correct length push rods .
I havent messed with roller rockers on FE's so I am sure someone who has will chime in
I would think that raising them is a bad thing. One of the designs of the assembly is to have the rocker shaft bolts/studs with a smaller diameter middle section. This was to allow oil to flow through the length of the shaft. Raising the stand would then allow it to sit in the section of the bolt/shaft that has a thread therefore restricting the amout of oil flowing. Not a good thing.
If I were you, I would return those pr's and get the proper length to be certain. it is worth the extra money to do it right than have an engine failure!
Thanks guys, I got some .100 shorter pushrods ordered. Also, I found out that the lifters were in the wrong box!!! The shop that sold them to me was very apologetic and gave me new intake gaskets for free. I guess that helps a little. They gave me lifters for a 460 and they are .170 taller than FE lifters. Thanks again
