I have an 89 f150 and have recently just noticed the rear-end rides REALLY REALLY rough compared to other pre f-series trucks I have rode in with the same drop. It literally bounces from bumps. It acts as if the springs are too stiff. I have lowered the truck 4" in the front and 6" in the rear and use some rear leafs from a junkyard that seemed to be decent. Would I be able to get a certain year and or series of another similar f-series that would possibly have softer leaf springs? I have also already replaced shocks twice. Used some toxic drop shocks to belltechs nitro drop shock both rode the same. So it can only be the rear leafs were maybe for a 4x4 1 ton I would think.
Any info would be great. I was told to find same trucks with lower GVW rate.
lol dude come on.... not a newbie here. 3" front drop i-beams, 1" drop gen 1 lightning coils
rear 5" flip kit with 1" lowering shackle.
Clearly stated I replaced the leafs springs before the drop and was not sure if by chance I grabbed 4x4 1 ton springs or what as my local junkyard is not very organized and I did not think to look at the door for the GVW rate

I didnt see you saying you used a true lowering kit. I just saw you said
"So it can only be the rear leafs were maybe for a 4x4 1 ton I would think"
Then you talking about junkyard parts I figured you did a junkyard lowering kit.
So no C notch? Id guess your axle is bottoming out on the frame. I did a 3/5 on my old truck and didnt do the C notch yet and would bottom it out. I did beams and flip kit and DJM drop shocks and I was really surprised at how well it rode. Gotta be the wrong leaf springs if your not bottoming it out.
yeah i have marked my bump stop and went and hit a good bump and it didn't bottom out nor leave a mark the bump stop on the axle. By standing next to the truck and pushing down on the bed rails it seems very stiff and barely moves. My only other option I could possibly figure out is I happened to grab the wrong set of coil springs. I dont know how much difference it would cause for them being 4x4 leafs or not. Say I found a 96 f150 2wd with a small GVW rate and got those leafs, would there possibly be a noticable difference?
My box is 2.1 cubes tuned to 32hz. Love my 2k, has held up very well for as many different wiring configs I have done. I never liked the turn on pop the 1000c4 had so I never got one. I have an autotek 2 channel.
Have wanted to try Audioque but never got around to it. I stay mostly TC oem or True Bass for subs
Yea with 2 people on the tailgate my old truck would be resting on the bump stops. Gotta be the springs. How many leafs are in the pack?
Here is a picture of my flip kit on my old F150.
Another thing you could do is remove some leafs from the spring pack. I did this with my lightning. It will lower it more though. But it rode alot better.
Im pretty happy with AQ. I dont think you can beat them for the money. Ive had 2 HDC3 10"s, 1 HDC3 18", 3500D, and 1200D and haven't had any problems. Well except for the ripped spider in one of the HDC3s but that was my fault... lol
Sounds like you have a bigger budget than me hahah.
Damn.. has to be springs then. Had about 300lbs on the tailgate and it was still hard to bounce. My leaf packs are 3/1 so 3 main and 1 overload but I dont think that would rule out them being not for a heavier truck. My overload however does look different then yours. It appears more flat and not follow the contour of the other springs. I can get pics tommorow for sure.
I heard a lot of horror stories of the AQ's having tripple joint failure so I didn't bother to buy in. My main turn off too was how stiff they are. I dont like having to constantly "break in" the subs so the suspension loosens up.
just went out and checked the bounceyness of it. My 200lb fat *** was having a hard time getting the rear end to get near my bump stops by doing anything I could to get the springs to compress.
