really thinking about getting this one, input
Used 2003 Ford Excursion Limited 4X4 For Sale | Plymouth MI .
I drove it today and it drove much better than the others I have taken out, tracked well, good feel on corners, no odd noises or anything like that. I took a look underneath and there certainly is some rust but did not look bad to me and unless they did something it looked like some of the break lines have been replaced recently as they did not seem to have the weathered look that type of hose gets after 8 years.
The bad, some stains on the carpet, and more than a few blemishes on a few of the seats. The dvd player looked more than a little rough for the wear but had a doh moment and didn't bring a disk to see if it worked. Both sides of the front bumper are damaged along with the front end of the passenger front quarter panel, looks like low speed bump ins probably with something that really wasn't in the mood to move. Oh and there are a few dings on both the back corners as well, again smaller dings but dings none the less.
I am sure I will go duh why didn't I mention this or that as soon as I post but that's how it goes.
If you can think of anything that I should check out when I go back next week would love to hear it.
Oh tires are prob 75% left and brakes are at least 50%.
thanks,
Change the plugs and boots every 75K or so using Motorcraft plugs and using the correct procedure to install them and torque properly. At 126K yours have probably been changed but do'em again yourself to make sure it was done correctly. The exhaust studs are an issue for some. It is a PITA job and expensive if you want someone else to do it. On the bright side, I've never had a blowout nor manifold stud issue on my 2000.
Keep up with maintenance and FTE will help you with the rest, enjoy your Ex! Sorry, couldn't get your VIN to run here:

Edit: Just looked at the pics better, and it looks like they cleaned it up quite a bit since I saw it last (at least the interior).
I found it better to use a stiffer brush with the Scrubbing Bubbles over using a sponge. The sponge just didn't get in to get the stuff off as easy, so the end result wasn't nearly as good.
on the price i think i have them down to $9,200 but not for sure yet, if i go back and the DVD doesnt work prob wont go over 9k, from what i have seen that seems low side for dealer maybe a little hi if private party but not bad, what do you think?
thanks,
Ford had put more threads in the cylinder heads by '03 so the spark plug spitting issue should be resolved.
Check out the tires and see if there is any unusual wear on them. This would tell if it needs an alignment or if there is anything up with the suspension. Get an Oasis report from the Ford dealership to get a history on it.
The bumper and the front fender (quarter panel) both can be replaced easily if you really want. Same for the seats.
Check the 4x4 to see if it engages. Your vents to ensure no vacuum leaks.
$9200 is not too shabby. I picked up mine (XLT trim) and only 2WD, '02, with 113K miles for $8K 2 years ago. If you like it, go for it.
