interior electrical noise

hey guys - it has been a while since I have signed in. My 2010 F250 6.4 has been running great. 60k miles in 15 months. No significant issues to report back and getting 19mgp (I am a slow driver with very little towing) and lots of highway miles.

question - just recently I am hearing a noise coming from in the dash that sounds like an electrical drive (like a cd loading into a magazine) that does not stop. The radio being on/off does not change the noise neither does the temp control fan or different modes of air flow. If you turn the ignition off the noise stops. It will not start with the key in the 'accessory' mode but once you turn the key to 'on' the noise comes back. I brought to the dealership and they could clearly hear the noise but do not know what it could be.

Any suggestions.

I know the sound...mine does it but it is my aftermarket stereo. My stereo has a hard drive in it so it has to spin just like a computer.

What about turning the hvac controls completely off. Do you hear the noise then?

dash noise

the noise continues with the hvac on or off. You are correct it sounds like a hard drive loading on a computer but I do not have any accessories like that.

Is your Head unit a nav model? If so I believe the nav cd is installed all the time and it may be the nav drive is starting to get noisy. Just a shot in the dark.

i do not have nav in my truck but that would have made perfect sense.

I am sure the truck will be spending some quality time at the dealership in the near future. I hope they can figure it out. The noise is just load enough to drive me crazy

I am afraid I am out of ideas. Here is an idea though. That front cover for the center stack is easy enough to take off.

Then maybe you can put your ear closer to the noise to pin point it.

To take that cover off it is just a few bolts.

Sound's like 1 of the blend doors ratcheting in the vent system.Try adjusting temp setting up to 70 deg or higher and see if it gets better.

Truth be told my truck makes the same noise, and I thought it was the blend door motor going south. I got it replaced and while my A/C temp issues went away, the noise did not.

the noise does not change with temp, direction of air (floor, vent, defrost) or if I turn the hvac off completely. in the accesory mode (key in first position so radio works) noise is not there. Turn key to second position 'run' the noise starts. This noise is there regardless of hvac, radio, being on or off.

I appreciate the feedback but I think it is destined for the dealer.
