on my 1992 f150 ... there is no small depresion switch at the front of the door on the drivers side .. like on a pre 92 truck .. but there is on the passenger side. my roomate has a 98 150, and his truck has the same setup. Here is the problem. my truck the interior light wont turn on for drivers door, but it does for the passenger door. i look for the switch, but oculdnt find it ... any ideas on how this works? my roomates truck light doesnt turn off most of the time ... same type problem, opposite ... so he had to pull the fuse on his lights. Any help would be greatly appreciated .. as this same switch would also trigger the buzzer, (if it has one) and i have a habbit of leaving my headlights on when its not really dark out cause we have to have lights on for wipers on .. even in daytime.
The light switch is at the rear of the door opening near the bottom and should be covered by a rubber boot. The boots fail and cause the lights and or chime to stay on. Replace it. Its easy and cheap.
ok, so the switch on the back thats like the old seatbelt switches is the light switch as well. thats what i figured, but i didnt really have a chance to mess with it yet. when you say both switches are the same, you mean both the 92 and the 98? thanks a lot. i used to be on the bronco board over on offroad.com all the time.
hmm, so if both switches are the same ... any idea why they still have the little metal switch on the passenger side ,,, thats at the front of the door? sorry, its just somthing thats been bugging me, but i am in a hellish engineering semester and dont have time for any fun or truck fixing that isnt imminant. back tank doesnt work, and the frotn tank was just leaking, so i just had to patch that up. been kinda hectic, just trying to fix this so my buzzer works and i dont leave my headlights on and kill my battery one day.
I just bought a 92 F150 4x4 Supercab, and it also has the switch problem. The passenger door switch works, (it's in the front of the door jamb,) and the drivers side door switch, (at the lower right side of the door opening,) doesn't. The passenger switch is metal, and the drivers side switch is made of plastic. There is also no rubber boot on my drivers side switch as was mentioned in an earlier post. I pulled out the switch on the drivers side, and lo and behold, it wasn't plugged in! But it gets worse, once I got the wires out I could see why. The plug that goes into the switch is melted. Something caused it to short out I guess. Couldn't even plug it back in if I wanted too. Would the lack of a rubber boot covering the switch lead to this? If so can I replace the plug and boot, and be lit up again? Any help would be most appreciated.
Yeah, the boots on those switches fail, all kinds of crap gets in there and then bingo, shorts out. Cheap fix. I replaced mine and think it was about $12 or $15 from the dealer. When you replace the plug, run a little extra wire for it ( in case it happens again), and I would recommend a light solder on the wires so they won't vibrate apart. 15-20 min job with beer break.
